Our History
In 1942, Thomas P. O’Brien moved his funeral home from downtown Bristol where it had been located since its founding in 1909 to 24 Lincoln Avenue in Forestville. At that time, wakes were held in the homes of the deceased. Mr. O’Brien foresaw a gradual shift in this practice and wanted to provide a facility that could maintain the ambiance of that traditional atmosphere which he felt was an important part of helping people deal with their loss. The O’Brien Funeral Home has since stood as an emotional landmark for many Bristol and Forestville families.
The house at 24 Lincoln Avenue was built in 1890 as a wedding gift from Elias N. Welch to his daughter H. Drusilla Mitchell. A distinct feature of the home is the front facing East Main Street. It was designed to resemble a river showboat with it’s rounded stern and double deck. A vast green lawn still graces the side and front of the home. Inside, many antiques compliment the intricate and beautiful woodwork. A sweeping foyer hall, cathedral ceilings and lavish wrap around porch complete this Victorian masterpiece.

Thomas P. O'Brien, Location ManagerThomas P. O’Brien, a lifelong resident of Bristol, is a graduate of Boston College and a licensed Funeral Director. Tom follows his father and grandfather in managing the O'Brien Funeral Home. Tom and his wife Marie live in Bristol.

Mark A. SelemanMark A. Seleman has been with the O’Brien Funeral Home since 1987. He is a graduate of the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service. Mark resides in Bristol with his wife Maryann and is a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer.

Eric G. GranadosEric G. Granados has been with O’Brien Funeral Home since 2000. He received his mortuary degree, from The New England Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences. Eric resides in Bristol with his wife Nicole and is a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer.

Nicole I. Granados CFSP, CPCNicole I. Granados, CFSP, CPC, has been with O’Brien Funeral Home since 1999. She received her degree in mortuary science from The New England Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences. She is licensed in both Connecticut and Rhode Island as a funeral director, embalmer, and life insurance agent. Nicole is a Certified Funeral Service Practitioner and Certified Pre-Planning Consultant specializing in pre-arrangement consultations, irrevocable trust preparation for Title 19 and burial insurance. She is currently serving as Vice-President on the board of the CT Funeral Directors Association and resides in Bristol with her husband Eric.
