Margaret M. Pons, 87, widow of Robert E. Pons, passed away on Saturday February 27, 2010 at the Reservoir of West Hartford with her family at her side.
Margaret was born on June 7, 1922 in Bristol, CT a daughter of the late Frank and Michelena (Cappella) Masterbone. She was the last surviving member of the “Masterbone” family-- sisters Sue and Viola, and brothers Harry, Joseph, Anthony, Philip and Frank. Margaret enjoyed a highly successful career in retail working at Dorothy’s Clothing Store and Michaels Jewelers. She also worked at New Departure Hyatt Bearings in Bristol where she retired in 1986. She enjoyed her retirement years with her husband of 59 years traveling. She also did volunteer work at the Bargain Box in the Bristol Senior Center and was a member of the Women’s Service Organization. She loved to cook, was an avid Uconn Men’s and Women’s Basketball fan and was a diehard Boston Red Sox fan. Margaret will be remembered most for her impeccable dress, her zest for life and her outgoing personality. She cherished family functions and possessed a pride and love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren that will be remember forever. She is survived by her daughter Susanne Kelly of Bristol; her son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Barbara Pons of Avon; her grandchildren, Scott Pons and his wife Jennifer of Duxbury, MA, Matthew Pons and his wife Shelby of Bristol, Jeffrey Pons and his wife Karen of Newington, Lisa Banever and her husband Seth of Farmington, Brian Kelly of Bristol and Jason Kelly of Englewood, FL; her daughter-in-law Joan Pons of Burlington and most cherished six great-grandchildren, Isabella, Charlotte, Lucy Margaret, Mary Kate and Charlie Pons and Thomas Robert Banever and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Robert F. Pons.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Gregory Church on Wednesday February 3, 2010 at 11AM. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.
Calling hours will be from 9 to 10:30 AM on Wednesday morning at O’Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave, Forestville.
