Ann Kathleen Donovan Lysaght, 96, of Bristol, Connecticut, and Cocoa Beach, Florida passed away at home, surrounded by the love and prayers of family and friends in Bristol Thursday, March 18, 2021 after a long well-lived, joy-filled life of teaching, marriage and travel. Wife of the late William J. Lysaght, daughter of the late Ellen Downing Donovan and the late Mayor of Bristol and former Superintendent of Public Works Daniel J. Donovan.
Ann graduated from St. Joseph Grammar School, Bristol High School, and Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY and did her graduate studies at Central Connecticut State Teachers College and the University of Vermont. For over 36 years Ann taught fourth grade at Greene-Hills Grammar School in Bristol where she was beloved by her students.
Ann’s strong Catholic faith led her to leadership positions helping those in need. She served as Past President of the West Hartford Business and Professional Women’s Club, Recording Secretary of the State Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Club, and Past President of the Bristol Council of Catholic Women. She served on the Boards of the former Guild of the House of Good Shepherd in Hartford, a home for troubled teenage girls, and St. Agnes Guild in Wethersfield, a home for unwed mothers. She was the former chairman of the Bristol Commission on Human Rights, vice chairman of the Citizens Advisory Commission, and the Bristol Homemakers. She was active as a Republican State Committeewoman and
Chairman of the Bristol Republican Town Committee. She volunteered tirelessly at St Joseph Church and St Joseph School.
Predeceased by her parents, husband William J. Lysaght and his son William Jr., sisters Marie V. Donovan and Ellen D. White. Survived by her niece Ellen W. Hill (Charles), nephews Holman T. White (Emily), Donovan White (Deborah), and Levering White McQuillan (Terry), and her husband’s children Richard Lysaght and Mary Beth Jones. Ann is also survived by special friends Ted and Sharon Krawiecki of Bristol and Pete and Jan Hopman of Merritt Island Florida and many good long-time friends and priests in Bristol and Cocoa Beach Florida. Ann loved animals (dogs, cats, and her recent fiercely independent cat, Spotina.)
A Memorial Mass will be held directly at St. Joseph Church, 33 Queen Street in Bristol on Friday, March 26, 2021 at 11AM. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.
