Tribute

Anna Rita (Cameron) Newell, 85, of Plainville, passed peacefully early Tuesday morning, December 29, 2020. She was the wife of the late Richard E. Newell who passed in 2000. They shared 40 years of marriage together.

Anna was born in Hartford on July 9, 1935 the daughter of the late Joseph Dinnis Cameron and Bridget (Doherty) Cameron. She was retired as an executive secretary with Sherwood Industries. She also worked for many years at General Electric in Plainville. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Church, Plainville and St. Philip the Apostle Church, Ashford.

Mom and Dad loved to dance, particularly polka. They enjoyed cheering on the UCONN basketball teams and the Boston Celtics. They loved going to church bazaars and community suppers. Ma was the family photographer before cell phones and selfies were the rage. A good cook, she made holiday parties look like were easy to manage. She loved her family dearly and made everyone feel they mattered. She was the light we all looked to for comfort.

Anna leaves her children, Kelly Anne Griffith of Bristol and her partner Bill Cole of Windsor, Richard D. Newell (Lillian) of Windsor, Roger A. Newell of Plainville and Kory E. Martin (Philip) of Storrs; siblings Gary Cameron (Susan) of Southington, Michael Cameron (Mary Lynn) of Boulder, CO, Cathy Day (Donald) of Avon, sister-in-law Beverly Cameron of Lakewood, CO; grandson Robert Martin of Storrs and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
