Bertha M. Maroney, 89, of Bristol, passed peacefully on Thursday, November 14, 2019. She was the wife of the late Frederick H. Maroney.
Bertha was born in New Britain on November 7, 1930, the daughter of the late George and Katherine (Grigutis) Visnia, and lived in Bristol for most of her life.
She was a graduate of New Britain High School and Hartford Hospital School of Nursing. She was an RN for 5 years at Hartford Hospital and later with Walnut Hill Convalescent Home in New Britain for 25 years. She was a very committed nurse and for 10 years was treasurer of the Concerned Nurses Association. Bertha was a member of St. Matthew Church, Forestville and was on the executive board of their Ladies Guild for many years. She had also been a volunteer at the Bristol Senior Center. The family wishes to thank the staff at Apple Rehab in Plainville for their excellent care of Bertha.
She leaves her children, sons James F. Maroney and his wife Marina, Thomas H. Maroney and his wife Mary Ann, daughter Nancy A. Maroney, brother Donald Visnia, grandchildren Molly, Anna, Katherine and Stephen Maroney, and Scott Drouin, as well as several nieces and nephews. Bertha was predeceased by her brother Albin Visnia and her sister and best friend, Ann Pasek.
Friends and loved ones are invited to calling hours on Saturday, November 23, 2019 beginning at 8:30 a.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave., Forestville/Bristol. The procession will leave at 10:30 a.m. from the funeral home and proceed to St. Gregory Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Committal service and interment will follow in Forestville Cemetery.
