We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at O'Brien Funeral Home
Elene M. Myers, 93, of Bristol, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2022, surrounded by her family. Elene was born on May 28, 1929 in Carbondale, PA, the daughter of the late Morgan Wm. and Reva (Goodfellow) Jenkins.
Always an independent spirit, Elene followed her high school sweetheart, Thomas F. Myers, from Carbondale to CT for a “vacation” at the tender age of 18. Deciding to remain in CT, she lived with friends and worked at Ingrahams before marrying Tom in 1949. Together they settled in Bristol and raised their family in the home in which they lived together throughout their 66 years of marriage. The ultimate hostess, Elene loved to entertain, nurturing those she loved through her cooking and baking. Friday nights at the Myers’ was a regular event, hosting friends and family from near and far. Her most favorite recipes were memorialized by her granddaughter in the “Myers Family Cookbook”. A woman of great faith, she was active in her church and for many years played the piano and organ on Sunday mornings, often providing accompaniment for her husband’s solos.
Elene is survived by her children Sherelyn Labowski and her husband, Ted, and Thomas S. Myers and his wife, Lisa Reducha; her grandchildren Thomas R. Myers and his wife, Alexa, Katherine Myers, and Alasia and Jesse Griebel; her precious great-grandsons, James and Colin Myers; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas F. Myers, her son, Richard D. Myers, her brother, Morgan Wm. Jenkins, Jr. and sisters-in-law, Florence Jenkins and Lynne Jenkins, a brother-in-law, Henry Myers and sister-in-law, Joan Myers Graham, and a sister-in-law, Effie Finney.
The family would like to thank Nana, Rose, Josephine and Yaa, Mom’s live-in caregivers, whose compassionate care allowed her to stay in her home as long as possible. Thanks as well to the staff at West Hartford Health and Rehabilitation, including Prince, Pearl, Maria, Sharon, and many others, for their outstanding care of Mom during her time there and her final days. Finally, thanks to Kathi M. and Karen, Hartford Healthcare Hospice volunteers who took time to visit with Mom each week. Everyone who provided loving care for Mom are truly angels on earth.
Friends and family are invited to calling hours on Saturday, June 25, 2002 from 8:30-10:30AM at O’Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave., Bristol, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00AM at Asbury United Methodist Church, 90 Church Ave., Bristol.
