Giovanni B. Cassarino

November 1, 1942 ~ October 6, 2021 (age 78)

Giovanni “John” B. Cassarino, 78, of Plantsville, formerly Bristol, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 6, 2021. He was born on November 1, 1942 in Camogli, Genova,in Italy and the son of the late Sebastiano and Elba (Schiappacasse) Cassarino.

John was the loving husband of the late Libera Cassarino, for nearly 45 years. He retired from Stop and Shop in 2006 after 36 years of employment, where he made many lifelong friends. John loved his yearly hunting trips to Maine, deep-sea fishing and watching a good John Wayne cowboy movie or The GodFather. He loved dancing with anyone who would join him and he could never pass up listening to Bob Seger. Most importantly, John loved spending time with family and close friends. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. John was also a member of the Mount Carmel-Saint Cristina Society.

John is survived by his daughter Christina Cassarino and her husband Steve Ditota of Southington; his son Mark Cassarino and his wife Shreve of VA; grandchildren Ella Cassarino, Michael, Maria Rose and Julia Ditota. John is also survived by several cousins and close friends, both in the US and abroad. He was predeceased by his wife, parents and brother, Emanuele Cassarino.

The family would like to thank the many nurses and staff at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain, in particular those on C5, which supported them and took care of their father with the upmost dignity and respect. Their level of compassion toward all is inspiring.
