Irene Barcekowski, age 94, beloved sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2023, at Bradley Memorial Hospital in Connecticut. Irene was born on May 8, 1928, in Bristol, Connecticut, to Mary (Zaniewski) Barcekowski and Louis Barcekowski.
Irene is survived by her sisters, Mary Pajonas and Louise Barcekowski, and three generations of nieces and nephews. Irene was predeceased by her mother Mary (Zaniewski) Barcekowski, her father Louis Barcekowski, brother Francis Barcikowski, niece Karen Daigle, nephew Gary Pajonas, and her lifelong friend Eileen Moynihan.
Irene was employed as a purchasing agent at the Barnes Group, Inc., in Bristol, Connecticut and retired with over 44 years of service. She often spoke about how fortunate she was to have worked for such a wonderful company. Irene resided in Bristol, Connecticut for her entire life. Irene also enjoyed living by the water and graciously shared her beautiful beach homes in Cape Cod and in Florida with family and friends. Irene enjoyed using film and photography to capture special memories, having heartfelt conversations with loved ones, and caring for the dogs she adored.
Irene will be remembered as a wonderful woman who showered everyone with her continuous warmth, happy spirit, and generosity. By example, Irene taught us to always be kind, to care for ourselves, and to feed our souls. Irene's presence made holidays, birthdays, and every moment big or small, so very special.

Calling hours will be held at O’Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Avenue, Bristol, Connecticut on Friday, January 20, 2023 starting at 9:00 a.m. Procession will depart at 10:30 a.m. for a Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, 510 West Street, Bristol. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery, Bristol.
