June 8, 1943 ~ March 16, 2022 (age 78) 78 Years Old

Tribute

James S. Hatch, Jr, 79, passed away on Wednesday March 16, 2022.
Jim was born on June 8, 1943 in Camden, Maine to the late James Stanley and Hedwig (Sokolic) Hatch. He grew up in Islesboro, leaving the island in 1961 for college. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Accounting from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, TN in 1965. He moved to Bristol, CT in 1971.
Jim retired in 2009 after a forty-four-year career in commercial insurance underwriting and marketing with the Travelers and Royal Sun Alliance Insurance Companies, plus a brief period with Lockton, a national insurance broker. In 2010, he began working for the next five years as a part-time driver for Dee’s, a family-owned laundry service in Bristol.
Jim is survived by his beloved son, Jason Stanley Hatch, granddaughter Kaitlin Marie Hatch, former wife Thelma Hatch, “Little Brother” Eric Borden, many nieces, nephews and close friends.
He became a member of the First Congregational Church of Thomaston, CT in 2013, where he was involved in many church activities, groups and bible studies.
Jim was an enthusiastic volunteer throughout most of his adult life. He was a Big Brother in the mid-70’s, volunteered at the local food pantry, and in 2015 he became an AARP volunteer. He enjoyed giving back to the community where he could. He loved sailing and being around water. He was a compassionate person with a warm, friendly personality. He truly relished the many friendships he made over his lifetime. Jim will be remembered for his sense of humor, his mischievous nature and his work ethic.
At Jim’s request, there will be no funeral service. He wanted people to remember and celebrate a joyful memory from their time together. In the spirit of Jim’s enthusiasm for volunteering, those who wish can make a memorial donation to their favorite charity. Jim chose cremation, and requested that his ashes be spread over Penobscot Bay around Islesboro, ME where he spent his childhood.
