John R. O'Connor, Jr. passed away on September 22nd.
Born in Bristol in 1938, John was a lifelong CT resident, except for two years of service in the US Army during which time his first two of three sons were born. He leaves behind his three sons Peter, Patrick and Kevin; and three granddaughters Caitlin, Aenjhielou and Aisha. He was predeceased one month by his wife of 60 years, Betty.
Self-described Maître d', he was friendly with most everyone he met and enjoyed hosting picnics, dinners and Super Bowl parties when the Patriots were involved. Also proud of the fact he spent more years in retirement than on the job. He took the package Pratt & Whitney offered after 25 years of service in Purchasing at their East Hartford facility.
Sportsman to the end, Dad enjoyed scratchers and horse racing on TVG in his twilight years. And always rooted for the Red Sox and his alma mater Boston College. He liked to tell the story about him throwing a touchdown pass to Kevin Loughery in an intramural football game during his time there.
Rest in Peace.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 30 from 5-7pm at O'Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave., Bristol.
