John P. Slason Jr.

John “Jack” Purdy Slason, Jr., 77 of Bristol, beloved husband of Patricia Ann (Zipp) Slason, passed away on November 1, 2023 at the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain, CT.

Born in Waterbury, CT, he was the son of the late John P. and Clevia (Franson) Slason. Jack graduated from Sacred Heart High School from Waterbury in 1964 and received his Bachelor’s degree from Central Connecticut State University. Jack worked in the computer field at AGS, Vantage Computer Systems and retired from the State of Connecticut. After retirement, Jack devoted his time to Jack’s Quilting Accessories, his woodworking business making beautiful and ergonomic wooden tools for quilters. Jack served in the US Army during the Vietnam War-era receiving both a National Defense Service Medal and Mech Badge w/BAR.

Besides his wife, Jack leaves a daughter Monique Slason of NC; a sister Shelley and her husband William Hedberg of Watertown; a brother Kevin and wife Judy Slason of FL; two nephews, Christopher Hedberg of TX and David Slason of Watertown; a brother-in-law Gerald Zipp of Vernon and was predeceased by a brother-in-law Peter Zipp. Jack also leaves an aunt and uncle Irene and Howard Franson of Watertown and many cousins.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 6, 2023, from 4 PM until 6 PM at O’Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave., Bristol, CT followed by a service at the funeral home at 6 PM.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in the spring.
