Joseph A. Sperduti, 88, of Plainville, passed away on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 after a courageous fight with cancer. He was born on July 21, 1933 in Cornwall, NY, son of the late Joseph and Assunta (Desantis) Sperduti.
Joseph was the adoring and loving husband of Sonia (Mozelak) Sperduti for 64 years. He was an experienced spring maker who worked for CT Spring, Monico Spring, Acme Monico, and Economy Spring and Stamping. After he retired, Joseph began writing poetry under the pen name “Candy Man" and authored hundreds of poems. His nephew John challenged him to write an epic, which led him to become a published author of four novels.
Joseph was a kind, generous man with a joyful heart. He would give thoughtfully to anyone in need with humility and his subtle warmth. He was an intuitive, wise person, who was also creative and spiritual. A father figure to many, he was the anchor of his family and took the time to know people deeply. He was also known for his quick wit and sometimes grumpy (although loving) disposition.
Joseph enjoyed going to Aruba with his wife, family, and friends. He served on the board of directors for ARC of Meriden-Wallingford and Residential Management Services.
Besides his wife Sonia, Joseph is survived by his nephews John, David, and Alexander Sperduti; Michael Buzzi, Brian and Gregory Mozelak; niece Anita Wilson; great nephew Michael Buzzi; great nieces Melissa Szobota (Erik), Rachel, and Alyssa Sperduti (Scott), Jessica Godin (Daniel) and Hanah Mozelak; great-great nephew Erik, known as “Eri,” his 7-week-old great-great niece Lenna Jane, Mia, and his chosen family Susan, Donald, Kevin and Steven Melanson. He is predeceased by his cherubs Vinny and Joey, brothers John, Vincent, and Alexander Sperduti and sisters Mary Costa and Alice Wilson.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 15, 2021 at O’Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave. Bristol from 4PM until 6PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 16, 2021 at 10:00AM at St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Church, 35 Allen St., Terryville.
