Lillian Wojcik

January 17, 1928 ~ February 13, 2018 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Lillian Wojcik, 90 of Bristol, passed away on Tuesday February 13, 2018. She was born on January 17, 1928 in Lowell, MA, the daughter of the late John J. and Daisy (Beaulieu) Ahearn. Lillian loved music and art.  She spent her entire working career in those fields.  She began at Barnfields Music Store where she helped youngsters with their rental instruments for school.  If you needed a piece of sheet music, Lillian knew just where it was.  She then moved on to the Bristol Public Library as head of the Music and Arts Department.  No computers back then, but if you needed to find something, you knew who to ask.  But by far her greatest joy was when she became the Librarian at Saint Matthews School. She single handily transformed an out of date, dull lifeless room into a vibrant, magical place where students couldn't wait to go.  She would go to tag sales and book fairs, purchase books and book shelves, knickknacks and stuffed animals and created a whimsical place that the kids loved.  She did this entirely on her own.  She also worked at Briarwood College, volunteered her time as a guide at the Bristol Carousel Museum and was a Cub Scout Den Mother. Lillian loved to sing.  As a teenager, she would take the bus into Boston to take singing lessons. She was so good that she sang weekly on local Boston radio and once on the Art Linkletter Show, at the age of 3.  As a teenager, she sang on the Bushnell Stage with a big band and also sang in countless shows in Bristol and would love to sing at family gatherings. Lillian loved sports.  She was a die-hard Red Sox fan who at the age of 18 attended Game 3 of the 1946 World Series against the Cardinals at Fenway.  Ted Williams was her idol but she still managed to get Joe DiMaggio’s autograph. She loved hockey and was a long time Hartford Whaler season ticket holder.  She was also a big football fan, especially the NY Giants.  Her enthusiasm for the game showed when she wrote a letter to Commissioner Pete Rozelle of the NFL asking him to consider creating an “error” type statistic in football for receivers who drop perfectly thrown passes from the quarterback and not charge the quarterback with an incomplete pass. Lillian liked to cook, sew and spent hours knitting effortlessly while watching TV.  She also loved taking runs to the casino to try and beat the slots.  She loved going to tag sales with her friend Ellie, taking walks and she absolutely loved dogs. Lillian lived a full life.  She was a devoted wife and loving mother to her three sons, who was proud of her Irish heritage, often telling people that she got to choose Irish first names for her sons to go along with their Polish last name.  She adored her 2 grandchildren Katherine and Gregory.  She loved reading books to them, telling them stories and playing games with them.  We will all miss you Mom but you will always be in our thoughts. In addition to her grandchildren, Lillian is survived by her three sons, Kevin Wojcik and his wife Lynn Dolan of South Glastonbury, Brian Wojcik of Bristol and Daniel and his wife Dianne Wojcik of Glastonbury. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Joseph W. Wojcik and her brother John V. Ahearn. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Protectors of Animals, 144 Main St. Unit O, East Hartford, CT 06118, or online at www.poainc.org
