Rhoda Ann (Atherton) Herrick

Rhoda Ann Herrick passed peacefully on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at 77 her spirit found its way back to God.

Rhoda was born in Aberdeen, Scotland on August 31, 1943, daughter of the late Eugene and Lily (Walker) Atherton. Besides her husband, she leaves her daughter, Tina Matthews; son, David Herrick; six grandchildren; siblings and their spouses, Michael (Patricia) Atherton, Richard (Pauline) Atherton, Doug Atherton and Sheila (Dan) Porelle.  She will forever be the stoic guard to her six grandchildren, Christy, Gerrid, Shane, Kaylie, Jeremiah, and Nicholas. Rhoda was predeceased by her sister Elaine Wry and her husband David and by her brother James Atherton and his wife Sharon and by her sister-in-law, Diane Atherton.

As a child Rhoda immigrated to New Brunswick, Canada and met the love of her life, Dale Herrick, on the American border in Houlton, Maine. They were married October 25, 1958.  She enjoyed her trips to Canada to visit her family that she adored and she also enjoyed her trips to the casino with Dale.  Rhoda had worked in retail for many years at Railroad Salvage and Ocean State Job Lot. 

Rhoda will watch her daughter, Tina Matthews, and her son David Herrick from her place in heaven.

Rhoda was a devoted mother, wife, coworker, and friend. She always found the good in everyone. She would feed anyone who was hungry. She was the salt of the earth, a razor sharp comedian, and a friend to those in need. She was the holes in her shoes as much as the furs in her closet. She felt the unifying empathy of having nothing and wanting to give it all. Loving her was to love everything in this world gritty and kind. Above all, she was a giving person. The Herrick’s wish to thank their friends and family, Debbie Cooper, Lynda Bouchard and neighbors Max and Amanda and family, Bristol Hospital visiting nurses Suzanne, Jody, Lisa, Amy, Lynn and Mark for all of their help and excellent care.
