Ruthann “Foo” Field, 63, of Bristol, devoted daughter of the late Eugene M. and Kathryn (Heslin) Field passed away suddenly on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Bristol Hospital.
Foo was a graduate of Bristol Eastern High School and received her BA, MA and Sixth Year Degree from Central Connecticut State University. She started her long career in the Bristol School System in 1979 as a part-time PE citywide teacher and became full-time in 1980. She worked at Northeast Middle School and Chippens Hill Middle School as a PE teacher and later became a guidance counselor at Bristol Central High School. Over the years she also worked as an adult education teacher and guidance counselor. During her career she coached volleyball, basketball, softball and tennis. Foo was also a die-hard Duke and Coach “K” fan. Go Blue Devils!
Foo cared deeply about her volunteer work at Bristol Home Care and Hospice which she has done for many years.
Foo is survived by her brothers Thomas Field and his wife Maureen of South Windsor, Michael Field and his wife Lynn of Centerville, MA, James Field and his wife Sandra of Calgary, Canada, Robert Soucy-Field and his wife Jackie of Bristol; several nieces and nephews Katie Field and her partner Christopher Havener, Timothy Field and his wife Karen, Cailin White and her husband Matt, Michah Field and his wife Jill, Kegan Field and his wife Shannon, Trenna Field and her partner Nick Eichel, Matthew Celata, Casey Field, Cody Field, Cari Penta and her husband Steve, Tracy Field, Teague Soucy-Field, Brenna Soucy-Field, several grand-nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends. Beside her parents, she is predeceased by her sister Maribeth Celata.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2019 from 1 to 4 p.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave., Bristol/Forestville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, December 23, 2019 directly at St. Matthew Church, 120 Church Ave, Forestville, CT. Committal service will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, 1309 Stanley St, New Britain.
