November 27, 1919 ~ February 6, 2017 (age 97) 97 Years OldShare Tribute:
On Monday afternoon February 6, 2017, Betty Kilmen (age 97) of Peterborough, NH, passed away peacefully at home with family by her side. She was the widow of the late John Kilmen who passed away in 1988. Betty was born on November 27, 1919 in the small town of Linneus, Maine to the late Vernon and Hilda Mitchell.
Betty is survived and will be greatly missed by her sons Dennis and Steven and his wife Cynthia, sister Leona and other extended family. She is predeceased by four children: Linda, John, Bryan and Susan; and her sisters Lois and Phyllis.
Betty lived a long and varied life. Her family moved from Maine to Bristol when she was a young child. She lived there for most of her life and pursued her education, culminating in a Bachelor of Education from The Teachers College of Connecticut. Soon thereafter, World War II, love, and marriage changed her plans and she became a homemaker and dedicated mother to her children and a menagerie of family pets. When the nest was empty, she enjoyed playing bingo, needlework, travelling the country, while also finding time to help others at the Bristol Senior Center. Her last few years were spent at Summerhill Assisted Living in Peterborough, NH, near her sons where she shared her smiles and compassion with the staff and fellow residents.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at O’Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Avenue., Bristol/Forestville CT with a service immediately following. The burial will be private for the family.
In lieu of flowers, try and live a life that will make your loved ones, past and present, proud.
